Front-Runner City To Host WWE SummerSlam 2023 Revealed [Report]
There is reportedly a front-runner to host next year's WWE SummerSlam 2023 event.
According to a report from Fightful Select (h/t Ringside News), the city of Detroit, Michigan is a favorite to host The Biggest Party of the Summer. It was noted that nothing has been "finalized" on that front.
The state of Michigan has hosted SummerSlam on one occasion. The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills (the former home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons) hosted the SummerSlam 1993 event on Aug. 30, 29 years ago. The main event of that show saw Lex Luger defeat Yokozuna to become the new WWE Champion.
In October of last year, WWE announced that SummerSlam 2022 would take place at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the announcement for the SummerSlam 2021 venue was delayed. It wasn't until June 5, 2021 where WWE announced that SummerSlam 2021 would be held at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
SummerSlam traditionally takes place in the month of August, but this year's show was the first to take place in July. For what it's worth, the NBA's Pistons (Little Caesars Arena), the NFL's Detroit Lions (Ford Field) and the NHL's Detroit Red Wings (also Little Caesars Arena) won't be playing games in July. The NFL pre-season doesn't begin until August, so WWE would have plenty of open dates in the summer to use one of those giant venues for SummerSlam.
Confirmed 2023 WWE Pay-Per-View Dates & Locations
So far, WWE has confirmed the dates and locations for four pay-per-views in 2023. Royal Rumble 2023 will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 18. Then on Feb. 18, WWE will travel up north to run the Elimination Chamber event at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
The NXT Stand & Deliver event will run on Apr. 1 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. On Apr. 1-2 weekend, WWE will run WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. SoFi Stadium hosted Super Bowl 56 between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals back in February.
